The Lions team finished as winners of the A competition after winning all five of their matches. The squad of Harry Bostock, Daniel Brand, Oliver Colombo, Nathan Coward, Sam Gordon, James 'dark' Knight, Jack Marks, Morgan Purnell, Thomas Sanders and Sam Thurston played some great rugby to see off A teams from Hove, Haywards Heath, Heathfield, Burgess Hill and Shoreham. As well as having plenty of match-winning individuals the team's all round ability shows why they are regarded as one of the top U9 teams in Sussex and should be regularly challenging for festival honours for the remainder of this season.
The Tigers team finished as runners-up in the B competition on count-back to Hove. The squad of James Andrews, Finlay Conway, Jolyon Crook, James 'light' Knight, Benjamin Mason, Brandon Masters, Finlay Rutherford, Mason Taylor, Ruben Weide and Aaron West started well with comfortable 4-2 and 5-1 wins against Haywards Heath Blacks and Brighton respectively. However, this was followed by an error-strewn performance against eventual winners Hove and failure to adapt to the referee's decision-making cost them dearly as a 3-1 loss meant that Hove eventually won the competition on the result between the two teams. Horsham finished with a 6-4 win over Haywards Heath Reds and a 6-2 triumph over Heathfield but it was to prove in vain.
So the boys returned to Horsham with an overall record of played 10, won 9 and looking forwards with confidence to playing next Sunday at the Guildford Gala.
