Horsham 'A' overcame a difficult day at the office to snatch a trophy.

Two teams traveled to Pulborough on Sunday to take part in their annual Under 9/10's tournament. An 'A' team and 'B' or development squad, after a little late notice from the coaching team the required teams were filled - just. With only the minimum of players in each team we knew it would be a tough ask for the kids but with the hope of a quiet afternoon we gave it a go.

I was with the A team on the day so please excuse any brevity on behalf of the B's which I'll get to in a bit.

The A team had Brighton first and a cracking match it was. Losing the game whilst asleep from a restart after they had just scored. 3-2 Brighton

Horsham with no rest or subs went straight into the next game. Pulborough took advantage and won by the narrowest of margins 2-1.

The final game in the group was against Petersfield which they lost 4-2.

This put them in a final with the team which finished bottom of the second group Crowborough. This finished 3-3 with Crowborough scoring at the end. This was hard on the lads as they were pretty exhausted by now and missed out by and interception try as we were right on their line.

It worked out that a draw was enough though as Horsham's points difference must have been better as they were awarded the Vase trophy. Well done fully deserved.

The 'b's shared a similar story, not managing a win in their group games but unlike the A's they couldn't secure the 'b' vase final narrowly losing to Worthing 'b'.

As a coach I couldn't have asked for more from them. It was a tough day they never gave up and worked their socks off showing plenty of potential. I'm sure we will do better in the coming weeks turning some of those narrow loses into wins.
