East Grinstead 10's Runners Up

With a squad of 15 & roll on subs this was an opportunity to give all the boys a run out playing 10's against next seasons opposition in the shape of East Grinstead & Haywards Heath.

Our first game was against East Grinstead G Army who we beat 15-5 with trys scored by Craig Dent with two from Lewis Wilson.

Next up were Crawley who we beat 30-5 with 2 tries each scored by Alex Harry & Olly Lewis with further trys from Jordan Bell & Lewis Wlson.

Elaine Allen took the boys for a warm up before their crunch game against Haywards Heath who they battered 30-0. This was an excellent game where the boys played with maturity and brought some of the backs set piece into play during the game.

With a break in play due to Haywards Heath injuries the boys formed a huddle & motivated themselves with their own team talk to focus on winning the game.

2 trys were scored by Jordan Bell with others scored by Mathew Allen (who looped round Olly Lewis to collect a return pass & create an overlap to score), Ben Murphy & Sam Minto who romped over the line from 30 yards.

The final game was against East Grinstead G Force who were also unbeaten & the outcome would decide the winner of the EG Sunshine 10's.

We battled really well & had the majority of the posession with Aarron Bulman having a great tournament clearing out at the rucks and contact area.

There were some very interesting refereeing decisions which did not do us any favours - a big looping forward(?) pass & an extra man joining the line out on two occassions which resulted in all three trys for East Grinstead - the last being the final play of the match.

Although the boys were dissapointed it shows the dramatic improvement this season where we now are playing in the main tournament and not the plate competition.

It was a mature performance & the boys showed they can compete and not be intimidated by the league 1 teams they will meet at U16 level.
