Passion, enthusiasm & emotion ....... this is what touring Horsham means to Saint Maixent & it was fantastic to host the French after a 20 year gap.

With a number of Colts rested for their County Final the next day, Horsham put out a mixed U16/Colts side to play Saint Maixent U18 in what was a return fixture following our Colts tour to Saint Maixent last year.

The tours between Saint Maixent and Horsham started in 1973 and continued till the early 1990's and its been great that they have started again after a break of over 20 years.

Listening to the speeches and presentations before the game you realise how much this means to Saint Maixent especially as some of the original touring party from both sides met up again after all these years.

I'm surprised the French took the field after seeing how much drinking went on the night before, but it was an entertaining and competitive game played with great spirit by both sides.

The U16's did not look out of place with Ben Murphy and Callum Punter scoring trys in a 20-17 win.

Congratulations to Ben Murphy , Ryan Maguire ,Callum Punter ,Matt Allen ,Calum Robison ,James Purbrick ,John Matthews ,George Carbone ,Max Elliott ,Niall Chapman & Wilson Haines who all put in great displays.

It was especially pleasing for parents to see 3 sets of brothers playing for Horsham - Carbone, Chapman & Murphy.

Phil Allen who played in the first game against Saint Maixent in 1973 was thrilled to see his grandson Matt repeat the feat 42 years later!

It was brilliant day & I'm sure all the U16's are keen to tour Saint Maixent next season at Colts level.
