It was arguably their best performance of the season against opponents who made it very hard, particularly in the first half, and kept fighting to the end.
Horsham were 20 0 up by half time through two tries each from full back George Palmer and second row Matt Brock. Palmer's two tries came through flowing back moves and Brock's from lines outs when he was driven over from 15 metres out by his fellow forwards. Great balance between forwards and backs. The goal kicking wasn't quite up to the general play with all conversions missed.
Horsham flew out of traps in the second half and when fly half Callum Boswell's cross field kick was gathered by left wing Declan Nwachukwu he beat a couple of defenders before timing his pass perfectly to put centre Matt Blake in under the post. 27 0. Nwachukwu went on to score two outstanding tries down his wing though he did somehow manage to wind himself scoring his second with nobody around!
The home side scored 10 tries in total with further scores coming from centre Alex Clery, hooker David Fennelly and replacement scrum half Nick Bayne who all followed up flowing moves between backs and forwards to touch down. In total 3 conversions were made!!
East Grinstead never gave up and finished the match pressing on the Horsham line for what would have been a well deserved try.
All 22 of the Horsham team played their part but the stand out performance came from no 8 Michael Watson closely followed by Nwachukwu and scrum half Josh Steggles who controlled the game expertly in conjunction with his fly half Callum Boswell.
Final score 56-0 and everybody retired to the club house for a well earned Christmas lunch!!
