Horsham Colts secured 2nd place in the Sussex Colts Premier League with a hard fought victory against a very determined and committed Crawley outfit.

With the weather conditions fluctuating between warm sunshine and heavy showers, conditions weren't easy. Horsham, fresh from a succesful tour to St Maixent in France, came flying out the gates with full back Declan Nwachukwu flying through the Crawley defence to touch down for Horsham's first try. The conversion was missed but if Horsham thought they were going to have an easy time of it they were in for a shock.

Following a number of breakdown infringements Horsham were marched back into their own 22 and when the strong Crawley pack drove for the line, weak defence allowed an a try in the corner. When Crawley converted from the touchline Horsham found themselves 7 - 5 down.

For the rest of the half the home side attached incessantly but the play was disjointed and frantic and a number of simple try scoring opportunities were wasted. Just when it seemed Crawley were going to go into the break in the lead, fly half Cameron Allan, sliced through the visitors defence an touched down for a try which he converted. The whistle went and Horsham held a slender 12 - 7 lead.

The pattern of the first half was repeated at the start of the second, with Horsham attacking but being met with resolute defence. Again chances were thrown away but eventually the pressure told as Allan and Nwachukwu scored their second tries of the game and Jerry Downey added another. With Allan converting the last try, Horsham ran out 29 -7 victors. It was a very tough last home game of the season against very good opponents. Man of the match was Dan Cass who put in a bone shuddering performance at blind side flanker.

With the 4 try bonus point, Horsham secured 2nd place in the league behind Hove with one game to go. This is a magnificent turn around from last year when the team finished last with now wins. It is a relatively young squad but with a small core of outstanding u18s who will go onto big things in senior rugby if they keep the game up (and you will, won't you boys).
