After a minutes silence to mark Remembrance Sunday Horsham were slow to get going against a very organised Jersey team. This season the coaches have kept on saying our mistakes will be punished against the stronger sides and it proved true with Jersey scoring a well worked try in the corner after 5 minutes. We were not competitive enough at the breakdown, fell off tackles and some passes went astray but things started to click into place and we responded with an well worked try scored by the excellent James Purbrick. Creating phase after phase of pick and go while in Jerseys 22, we showed plenty of aggression creating an opportunity to score with the difficult touchline conversion slotted over by Joe Blake.
Jersey scored a second try when they ran through the Horsham's poor defense to score a try from 60 yards but failed to convert.
Max Patterson scored a wonderful individual try kicking forward a loose ball colliding with the post pad as he dived over the try line while being tackled by the Jersey defender. The try was again converted by Joe Blake which made the score 14-12.
In the second half Jersey had an opportunity to put themselves in the lead with a penalty in front of the posts but the kick agonizingly bounced off the cross bar and dropped to the side of the posts in the dead ball area.
This was a key moment in the match with the game finely poised between two closely matched sides.
Jerseys varied line out and set piece was particular strong, winning them possession in critical areas when Horsham attacked.
The green & whites made some great line breaks through Alfie Burchfield & Ollie Lewis but support runners failed to collect the offload to put pressure on Jerseys try line.
Pressing the Jersey defense to stretch their lead Joe Blake had the vision to put in a wonderful cross kick which was collected by Max Patterson who darted down the wing but was bundled into touch by Jerseys scramble defense.
With the game finely balanced Charlie Best scored a fantastic try collecting another cross field kick by Joe Blake which stretched Jerseys defense as Charlie ran in from 22 yards.
Joe also kicked the conversion making the score 21-12.
Jersey never gave up and hammered the Horsham try line in the final 10 minutes but Horsham stood strong & defended well to close out the game.
