Strong performances across the whole squad starts to build strength in depth for the season ahead.

Report by Tony Lewis -
Since the First XV’s last home league game the Colts have been the victims of a late cancellation from proposed opponents, but have enjoyed a successful run out against Sutton and Epsom Colts.

The game at Sutton and Epsom was played on the clubs First XV pitch on a beautiful late Summer’s day which very much suited the fast running style of Horsham’s quick and mobile players. We were able to take the majority of the squad with us and the opposition were happy to play three 25 minute periods to allow for various team changes during the game.

This gave a much needed opportunity for those players who had not featured in the league victory against Heathfield the week before to get some important game time under their belts. Horsham dominated each of the three sections of the game and the most pleasing aspect of this was that whichever players were on the pitch, the forwards produced good quality ball both at the set piece and in the loose which was then used effectively by the backs.

Another encouraging aspect was that whilst Horsham manage to score 72 points including tries from almost the entire back division, they only conceded a single try.

In two friendlies and one league game to date, we have managed to cross the line on 31 separate occasions and have only conceded twice. To the Coaching Staff, whilst it is always good to see free flowing rugby and good tries being scored, it is just as rewarding to see a tight defence operating for the entirety of the game.

This Sunday we welcome Hove who are our opponents in our second league match. Hove competed in the second tier championship Colts league last year and were extremely successful with a young side and therefore fully expected to compete at the top end of the premiership league this year, with most of those players now moving into their second year of Colts Rugby. It should be an excellent game and as ever we would welcome all support. Kick-off is at 2pm on the Field of Dreams and the bar will of course be open!

Coaches Comments -
Well done today boys. Great to see everybody getting a run out. For the record the final score was 67 7.
Tries: Joe Blake 3, Joshua Sudder 3, Charlie Best 2, Conor Riley, Max Paterson and one for the forwards through Tyrick Gonzague. 4 cons for Joe and 2 for Mikey. Tougher challenges lie ahead but that's 50 points plus scored in each of the first 3 games. 31 tries scored and two conceded. Green Army!!

Lots of positives to take from today's game boys.Decent game time for those who didn't play last and some guys really showing what they can do.Really strong carrying from the likes Ian,Bunchy,Luke and Tyrick amongst many. Some proper big hits from Ricky and Enda.Top hands from Henry and Marcus.
You all played well lads.Just need to cut out the 50-50 offloads when they aren't required!
Set piece was strong with good work from Pat and Alex.
The good news boys is we can be much better.See you all on thursday.
Green Army!
