This was a dominant display by Horsham Colts, unfortunately they could not convert the dominance into points and ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard once again. Horsham went into the game looking for their first league win of the season, but they were always going to struggle due to a number of injuries, which resulted in a completely new back line with a number of players playing out of position.
Horsham started well, but they could not get the early score and as, in the two previous league matches they gave away a sloppy try which Chichester converted. Horsham tried hard to get back into the game, however they were caught out when the Chichester 13 smashed through Horsham’s defence to score under the posts and Chichester now had their second converted score of the game. After going 14 points down, Horsham now started to dominate the game with a couple of breaks made by the backs, but they were finally rewarded with a try after a series of forward drives and crash balls which ended with Liam Brady going over for his second league try of the season.
The second half was completely dominated by Horsham and they were unlucky with a long range penalty attempt which slid just wide of the upright. The last fifteen minutes of the game saw Horsham camped in the Chichester twenty two, where they were awarded a number of penalties. During this time Horsham crossed the Chichester line on four occasions, but they just could not ground the ball and Chichester should be congratulated on their defence. Horsham remained determined and they continued to apply a huge amount of pressure, but without reward. With cooler heads, Horsham may have tried to kick the penalties or changed the point of attack, however hindsight is a wonderful thing. The final whistle came as a relief for Chichester and a disappointment for Horsham, but Horsham should take a lot of confidence from this game.
