Hellingly travelled to Horsham in very wet conditions, even the field of dreams at Coolhurst was a bit sodden underfoot.
With a full compliment of players, the Lions took to the field and after much pressure Hellingly opened their account with a push over try from a well worked rolling maul. However, after many changes in their pack, Hellingly lost their dominance through an awesome effort from the Lions front five. Matt Stone stealing too many balls against the head in the scrum to count, and the immense driving from the rest of the pack proved too much for the visitors.
A well worked try came from the back line moving forward and a pass from Mark Elliott to his skipper saw Harman cross the line to the right of the posts.
Half time score 10-17 to Hellingly.
After a few problems with admin, the second half commenced. Again, very evenly matched sides competing where ever possible. Good jinking runs were made but Tom Wright at nine, which caused the opposition many problems. A penalty was awarded against Hellingly and Horsham opted for the posts. George Paton-Phillips stepped up and slotted the points, 13 -17. With the Horsham pack showing their power and composure a try was only a matter of time. It came from Jake Lowe playing at 7,after a quick tap penalty that was fed to the pack, Lowe crashed over to the left of the sticks. The conversion was missed, Final Score 17-18 to the Lions!
