The first ten minutes started well with Horsham holding their own in all areas of the game, though the faster backline of Holbrook saw their speedy fullback race through to open the scoring, this would be the theme of the game, which when the Holbrook centres decided to pass they found gaps against a Horsham backline averaging nearly 40, only reduced due to the young Lewis Rixon at fullback! Whilst Holbrook had the majority of the possession, Horsham fought well and held together.
At the start of the second half, Horsham were 4 tries down, but still in the game. Horsham started the half the better with some penetrating drives up into the opposition 22 and with quick ball and hard running from the forwards eventually saw Mark Elliot gave over for a try, unfortunately the conversion was missed. Horsham continued to put pressure on Holbrook though without harming the scoreboard. The remaining half saw Holbrook run in some long range tries through tired Horsham players and with their fullback either scoring tries or vomiting, it was only a matter of time before he was off, though not sure the cause of him leaving the field!
The game remained fairly competitive till the end with Horsham never giving up against a regular Holbrook unit who outplayed a scratch Horsham side, however on a different day with a different team, who knows! Well done to all who played.
The game also saw another family moment with the young Gavin Rixon playing with his even younger son Lewis.
Next week the Lions travel down to Uckfield for another friendly and the 3rds play Midhurst 2s in the league.
