Team notches up another convincing win

Horsham Under 18 girls hosted Guildfordians on Sunday. Guildfordians came out the stronger of the two teams with some good strong running the midfield and a couple of missed tackles rewarded them with the first try.

For the second match, it was the wake up that Horsham required, with an excellent covering tackle from Lois Martin saving an almost certain try. Strong runs from Evie Guy and Juliana Paul. Some quick ball and good width gave Millie Smith some space on the outside, who coasted past the defence to put the ball down from 40m.
Freya Bell added the extras.

Guildfordians then put excellent pressure that charged down 3 kicks in a row as Horsham tried to clear their lines. Horsham scrum then started to dominate taking 2 against the head.

Charlie Peters then identified some space on the blindside and put Macy Lawes through to score, making the score 12-5.

From the kick off, Ella Earle and Tegan Williams teamed up with 2 powerful runs each, which gave the team quick ball. The ball was spun out to Bell who dummied two players to score. She again added the extras making the halftime score 19-5.

The half started with an excellent turnover by Izzy White, which set up good field position which led Kacey Matthews powering over for her first of two tries on the day. The pressure from the Horsham pack continued with strong play from Saskia Gibbard, Shay Spice and Tiggy Bellinger, which opened a gap for Mimi Clifford to speed through from 35m for a try. Bell duly added the extras once again.

An excellent run from Khiana Moreno-Melgar, in her first game of rugby ever put Horsham in great position again. Guildfordians did well to then turnover the ball and power over the line from distance. Horsham were on the attack again and Peters attacked the blindside again, giving the ball to Emily Darch who tip toed down the touch line to score under the posts.

The pressure on Guildfordians continued as the kickoff landed with Kacey Matthews who side stepped 4 players and pinned her ears back and ran the ball in from 80m. Guildfordians wanted to make up for this, as they powered through the middle, only for their certain try to be thwarted by Millie Smith who chasing back and tackling 2 players and winning the penalty to get Horsham out of jail.

The match ended 43-10 to Horsham.

“That was a great all-round performance, the defence was strong, set piece was dominate and attack was clinical. The girls worked hard against a strong Guildfordians team as we knew they would be.

Couple of players played extremely well out of position, as well as Khiana and Saskia in the first matches ever and in the front row respectively” said Backs coach, Matt Brown
Juliana Paul was voted Player of the match.
Horsham Under 18 girls next fixture is Friday night game on 7th October against Old Reigatians at Home.
