Loaned players score tries for East Grinstead

Horsham Under 18 girls made the trip to East Grinstead. East Grinstead were short of a few players,
so Horsham made up the numbers to make it 14 per side. In the early exchanges both teams
attacked well, until a timely turnover from Izzy White, gave Horsham prime position to attack. The
ball got to the Horsham midfield, where Kacey Matthews powered to the line to score.
The days kicking duties were handed to Georgia Pearce, unfortunately the conditions got the better of her and
narrowly missed.

Some strong defending from East Grinstead and a turnover from Shay Spice who was wearing the
Blue and white of East Grinstead at the time, started to frustrate the Horsham attacks. Horsham
were then able to set up Juliana Paul for the next try of the afternoon. The conversion missed to
make it 10-0 to Horsham.

Horsham took the resulting kickoff and marched up the field with strong runs and excellent hands
from Tegan Williams, Ella Earle and White. The ball was spun wide, where Matthews exploited a
small gap in the defence and motored in from 70 metres to score. Pearce was successful with the
extras. After play resumed, Macy Lawes showed her lineout skills stealing the ball from East
Grinstead, an expertly timed dart from Lois Martin who was dragged down on the halfway line. The
ball was quickly recycled Charlie Peters fed Pearce who ran in untouched from 50 metres to score,
who also subsequently added the extras to make it 24-0.

Horsham attack again was ruthless as the ball made it wide to Millie Smith, who rounded the winger
and full back to score. Conversion was missed by Pearce.

East Grinstead then set up some great phases and handling was excellent. The ball made its way into
Mimi Cliffords hands who in the Blue and white of East Grinstead, left 3 of the Horsham defenders in
her wake to score for EG. This was the boost EG needed, and they were on the attack again, looking
for their second but was snuffed out by a well-timed turnover from Peters.

The ball made its way to Smith, who drew the full back and fed the ball inside to Spice who was wearing the Green and pink
of Horsham at this point to score. Conversion was made by Pearce for 36-5 lead.

East Grinstead were not giving up and were again attacking. A huge hit from Earle on Matthews who
at this stage of the match was playing for EG, both girls got up tapped each other to ensure each
other was ok, and got back into the respective positions showed the excellent spirit the game was
being played in.

Pressure was on the Horsham defence for a solid 5 mins, when Peters intercepted
the ball running 60m. She was caught agonizingly close to the line, but her offload found the safe
hands of a closely supporting Martin to score underneath the posts. Pearce was successful with the
subsequent conversion.

Emily Darch took the kickoff and set the ball up nicely. Horsham handling was on point in trying
conditions. The ball was passed down the back line to Smith who again unselfishly drew the full back
to put in Martin for her second in as many minutes. Pearce duly added the conversion.

East Grinstead never say die attitude was apparent all game, but they were not done. They set up
incredible field position with great pressure on Horsham’s tiring defence. The pressure told as
Horsham defence cracked to allow Matthews in for her 3rd try of the day but who had changed sides
at this time to squeeze in the corner for EG. What a game and was played in the true spirit that
rugby was meant to be played.

East Grinstead voted Mimi Clifford as deserved Player of the match.
