Following the success of the 2021-22 season, where both of our ladies' teams made their bows in league rugby, I am excited to see how both the 1st XV and the Lionesses kick on from what was a very successful 21/22. Having experienced regular growth in playing numbers over the last 3 years, we now have two strong squads of fully committed players, most visibly demonstrated by the great attendance at preseason that started earlier this week. Under the guidance of the same coaching team of Matt Stone, Tim Smith, Pete Softley and Steve Driver, alongside the irrepressible Wendy Shepherd as manager we are well positioned to have a real crack at the league title having finished 2nd first time out. As such, I am reliably informed that promotion to NC1 is the target and having retained the majority of last season's squad, alongside new players stepping up from the successful U18's team, we look forward to following their progress once the league campaign starts in earnest. Our Lionesses, after finishing the season on a high, with wins over East Grinstead and Portsmouth 2’s will be looking to build on that success, and, together with new players stepping up to play, are excited to see how the season progresses.
It is important to note the contributions of both Alyce and Trish for their leadership last season. They were driving forces throughout and helped build the foundations on which the successful squad is now built. With the new season upon us, they now step aside to focus on playing and I would like to welcome the new leadership team of Frankie (Capt) and Bex (Vice Capt) for the Lionesses and Chanel (Capt) and Ellie (Vice Capt) for the 1st XV and wish them all the very best of luck for a successful season. With a successful recruitment evening behind us, a number of new, exciting players joining and a focussed, enthusiastic squad, it is an exciting team to be a part of. Should any new players consider joining, please do get in touch via the clubs social media or club websites and we will be glad to welcome you to the fold. We are quite sure that once you experience the fun of the Sunday afternoons at the club, alongside a committed set of supporters that is growing weekly, you will be hooked. All matches are published on our website and with some matches played on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons to add variety to the schedule, the next year of Women's rugby at Horsham is full of promise.
