Craig Boswell - Horsham loses a much loved club member

Richard Ordidge12 Jun - 11:24

Horsham Rugby Club is deeply saddened to announce the loss of a club legend who has sadly passed away

As many of you may already know club stalwart Craig Boswell passed away on Sunday 17 May after a long and simply heroic battle against cancer.

Craig was a massive presence around the club over the last 20 years from when he first started coaching in the mini and juniors and playing for the BaaBaas. As a proud Falklands veteran and popular member of the police force Craig brought authority and a Scottish warmth to everything he did, especially at the club.

He was Head Coach of his age group from minis through to Colts and was influential in developing many fine rugby players and, more importantly, young men. He was an integral part of a number of years of Colts success and enjoyment creating life long memories and friendships for many culminating in a unforgettable Easter tour to Arras and Bethune in his last year as Head Coach.

He brought the playing skills honed in a number of Army v Navy games to the BaaBaas and one of his proudest moments was turning out on a number of occasions with his son Callum (pictured). The annual Dads vs Lads was another a great club event he played a massive part in.

Throughout his illness being in and around the club helped him through some tough times, including the tragic loss of his beloved wife Trish just last year. He was never more happy than being on the tractor cutting the grass on the Field of Dreams.

Craig’s funeral will take place on 3rd July with a requiem mass at St John’s at midday, followed by Worthing crematorium and then back to the club for the wake from around 3pm.

All of those who had the pleasure and the honour of knowing this heroic man are more than welcome. Donations to St Katherine’s Hospice (see link below).
