It is a source of tremendous regret for me to announce the sad death of Andy Johnson which took place on 25 June after a short illness while on holiday visiting his family in Scotland.
Andy was one of the best players ever to play for Horsham and was a key part of the greatest side in Horsham Rugby Club's history in the early 1990's which won the Sussex Cup twice and the club reached the highest level of league rugby it has yet achieved. He also had a couple of seasons playing for Harlequins and was a regular in the Sussex side.
In addition he was an exceptional local cricketer playing for Nuthurst.
Andy also helped to coach his sons mini and junior rugby sides and Will, James and Tom have all had long careers playing rugby for Horsham with Tom being the current 1st XV captain.
After leaving Horsham, Andy embarked on a new chapter in his life living in Australia with his wife Lorraine having originally met when he played in the Melrose 7’s aged 18. Andy’s funeral will be in Melrose.
