Tigers blown off course
By Chris Mason
Horsham U13 Tigers slipped to their first defeat in the waterfall competition for a number of months against Worthing’s development team.
The Tigers went into the match with confidence after a strong run of results. This included a 4-1 win against the same opposition earlier in the season.
However, this time Worthing had recruited a new man-child whose strong running caused the Tigers lots of problems in what turned out to be a 7-3 defeat.
The first half was a very even affair with the Tigers twice coming from a score down to equalise and reach the break at 2-2. Oliver Piggott crashed over from short range and Charlie Burt exploited space on the blind side to score the Tigers’ tries. Worthing also did well to hold up Horsham players over the tryline on several occasions.
The second half proved much tougher as the Tigers lost their way in the face of a very strong wind. Poor body positions in the scrums and rucks meant that there was no longer such a good platform to build attacks. And missed tackles and mis-placed passes led to Worthing dominating the play as Horsham heads went down.
There was a glimmer of hope when Jack Marks charged down a kick and dived on the loose ball to bring the score back to 4-3 but that was as good as it got.
Man of the match with some great tackles and strong running on the wing was our newest player billy houlton. Honourable mentions should also go to Charlie, Jack and Aaron.
So not the Tigers’ finest hour but hopefully they will learn from this.
