Damp Start for Waterfall Journey
By Laura Vallis
Horsham 5 - 10 Burgess Hill.
While I don't think we deserved to lose at the weekend I can't convince myself we did enough to win either. Although it's easy to pick out the moment as that missed tackle following a period of ascendancy, my belief is that we need to be creating more opportunities to score. We have to find a much better way of competing at the breakdown and attack the ball from greater depth in the backs. Our ball needs to come more quickly so we can disrupt the defence and create overlaps and gaps.
It's not all doom and gloom. The lineout worked very well and Tyler's try was definitely the play of the match. Scrummaging was strong and Will made a lot of ground from the pick and go - we'll be working on turning those chances into points on the board.
We have Brighton away this week. As a relegated team I think they'll present a tough challenge. Again, I have to select a match day 20 boys, the team list will be posted on Thursday.
We are hoping that the following week will be a Storm League game away at Burgess Hill. [Storm league is designed for mixed/development teams]. Anyone not featuring in the Waterfall games will get full matches in their preferred positions. After that there are matches designated as development team matches alongside two mixed matches. Lots of rugby for everyone :)
