Horsham U15 first league game at home saw Uckfield visiting and our boys were met with umbrellas when they ran in line onto Pitch 1. The game started like last league game at Bognor Regis where Green Army had all the possession, but not much came off it. Not until new full back Jordan Bell got us ahead 5-0. The possession stayed with us and despite Coach Jones screaming and shouting for the ball to be passed out to the wings, Aaron Bulman ran down the middle and put it down under the post. Uckfield did nothing to help them when one of their best players tackled too high and got sent to the sin bin by Rev Lowis. Horsham continued and the much anticipated Branston worked when James Purbrick successfully got the third try.
Jordan Bell got his second try and third conversion, yet just before half time Uckfield finally found their small winger Hugh, who turned out to be extremely fast. If not for our great defence, Uckfield would have passed the ball to him much more, but Horsham were ahead 26-5 by half time.
Second half started with Alex Harry bringing us ahead 31-5 before our coach team made big changes with six substitutions. New scrum half Rasmus Madum was shouting and kicking which he should also remember to do on a Saturday and jumped on the ball. New Fly Half Matthew Allen was close to convert, yet the game ended 36-5.
The boys played very, very well and it is great to see the many enthusiastic coaches supporting the team on the side line, including Josh Jones who looks like a young Jamie Redknapp next to his dad.
The after match thunder talk this time focused on: “Excellent work boys, let’s get out of this bloody weather and inside to get warm” – which the fabulous lasagne and Man of the Match Ollie Lewis’ Coca Cola and Mars Bar performance contributed with.
