London Scottish vs Horsham Rugby Club

London Scottish took the lead after Horsham head spurned a number of chances mainly due to poor ball retention in contact. Aaron Pyzer got his first try of the season after a lengthy injury lay off as he weaved his through the London Scottish and outpaced the full back to touch down.

Slack defending and mid field confusion allowed simple backs move to result in a second try for London Scottish under the posts. With the conversion added the home side lead 14-5. Horsham who at this stage seemed to be out for a Sunday afternoon stroll in the sunshine really needed to buck their ideas up.

Thankfully, this is exactly what they did and following strong running from prop Harry Blanthorn and no 8 Sean Richardson Horsham were soon camped in the home side’s 22. A couple of try scoring opportunities went begging before scrum half Josh Steggles made a sniping blind side run and as he was held up just short of the line, he managed a deft pass out the back of his hand with the ball making its way (via Josh’s heel) to Liam McGivern who powered his way over in the corner. The conversion was missed leaving the score 14 -10 to London Scottish.

With time running out and London Scottish in position it looked as though Horsham were going to lose out. However, when the ball found its way to Scottish right wing on the Horsham 22 not only did Declan Nwachukwu stop him in his tracks but he also ripped the ball from his grasp, evaded two defenders and then sprinted the length of the pitch to touch down under the posts. An amazing bit of action! Liam Ruz converted to leave Horsham winners by 17 pts to 14.

A great day for all the squad in a “professional” environment with added bonus of being able to watch some high class ladies rugby between Richmond and Hove whilst enjoying their food.
