Brighton was the destination for the 3rd league game of this season’s campaign. Confidence was high after 2 league wins so far but the boys knew this would be a tough one.
With the rain coming down hard on to an already sodden pitch, a tight attritional game developed, but the Wildcats struck first utilising the power game to move up the pitch. Close to Brighton’s try line, Harry Peel didn’t need a second invitation to pick up and put the Wildcats ahead.
As Brighton regrouped the Wildcats were faced with a barrage from their ball carriers and despite a steely defensive effort with strong tacking and competitive rucking, Brighton scored twice to see out the first half.
Into the second half, Brighton continued to use their strengths and crossed our line three more times but despite the score line at this point, it must be said each Brighton try had to be earned with each collision aggressive and brave.
However, never say never, it was the Wildcats who had the last say of the match. From close range the mighty Will Brown crossed the line, drawing the biggest cheer in the game!!
Words and scoreline cannot always tell the story but it can be said, watching from the sidelines these boys left it all out there in atrocious conditions and against a strong opposition. They truly went to battle together, put their bodies on the line, showed grit and determination, and never once did they back down. They should be proud of their performance.
