We thought it was East Grinstead Colts warming up before the game looking at the size of the opposition! But a battling performance full of commitment by a much smaller Horsham side made East Grinstead work hard for their win.

This friendly game was played in 3 x 20 minute halfs to give all players plenty of game time.
Some Horsham players are new to rugby and others have only played a couple of games in their new positions such as the 9/10 pairing of Maddum & Allen.
However, the committment shown by every player who took part today was excellent - the scrum was solid as ever giving the much bigger East Grinstead pack a run for their money.
The backs burst through the gain line on numerous occassions but a strong East Grinstead defence kept Horsham from registering the score they deserved.
The set piece combinations worked on in training are being put to practice in a game situation providing plenty of variation to Horshams gameplan which is encouraging for the coaching staff.
It was a tough game and the first 20 minutes saw Horsham leak a soft early try but they picked up their game and made it difficult for East Grinstead especially at the breakdown. 0-5.
The second half saw East Grinstead infringe on numerous occassions and the Horsham forwards were creating problems for the opposition who were becoming more frustrated.
A change of players during the second 20 minutes saw Horsham continue to soak up plenty of pressure and attack the East Grinstead defence when the opportunity arose. Unfortunately the physicality of the game took its toll with East Grinstead scoring two trys with one converted. 0-12
The final 20 minutes were going to be tough for the boys who were looking tired but continued to battle and not give up. Plenty of tackles and great rucking at the breakdown ensured they competed across the park and with 5 minutes to go had only leaked one try. James Purbrick, Olly Lewis & man of the match Lewis Wilson were having great games. A couple of try saving tackles - including a fantastic double tackle by Matt Allen - had kept us in the game and had we shipped the ball out the the wings when opportunities had presented themselves may have scored.
A number of high tackles by an increasingly frustrated East Grinstead saw one of their players sin binned but even playing against 14 men Horsham could not get on the scoresheet. Tired legs and bruised bodies let East Grinstead score a couple of late trys. 0-17
But plenty of positives to take away from the game for an ever improving Horsham side whose committment, phsiality and tackle count were very impressive. The manner in which the boys played, the maturity and attitude shown by all players was the most pleasing aspect of the performance.
