Within the first 5 minutes, Horsham’s number 8 Sean Richardson turned over possession in his own 22. The backs took advantage and showed great hands to deliver the ball to Declan Nwachukwu who made a superb break down the left wing to touchdown for 5 points. The try was then successfully converted by Liam Ruz.
Shortly after Horsham’s first try, terrific inter-play between Declan Nwachukwu and captain Matt Streeter allowed Nwachukwu to run the full length of the pitch and cleverly offload back to Streeter, just as he was tackled by the Heathfield fullback. Streeter crossed the line and scored in the corner earning Horsham a well-deserved 5 more points. This try however was not converted, leaving the score at 12 – 0 to Horsham.
Shortly afterwards, great teamwork between the Horsham backs and forwards mesmerised the bewildered Heathfield defence and when Liam Ruz cleverly chipped over the defending full back, Ben Birch chased the ball down and scored in the right hand corner to make the score 17-0. Despite constant pressure by Horsham this remained the score at half-time.
Despite Horsham's dominance, strong Heathfield defence and a penalty count of 26 -3 against Horsham (?) meant they were unable to get the 4th bonus point try. The second half only saw a controversial try scored by Heathfield which was converted. Horsham were able to field all of their replacements and at the final whistle the score was 17-7 to Horsham
Man of the match was fullback Charlie Blair-Rains.
