In very poor weather conditions this was a fantastic start to Horsham u16's Sussex A league season. The fact that 7 of the 8 tries were scored by the two wingers and the full back emphasised the high level of handling and running that the boys are renowned for. However, it was the drive and power of the forwards in the first 20/25 minutes that laid the groundwork for the win.
To get to 40 - 0 in 25 mins was outstanding however the game became became slightly disjointed in the second half as the weather deterioated even further and we made numerous rotational positional changes of the bench in an attempt to keep everybody warm!
Liam McGivern, Declan Nwachukwu and Ben Birch scored within the first
ten minutes of the game and they were all converted by Liam Ruz.
McGivern, Callum Murphy and Nwachukwu scored once more with two
conversions from Liam Ruz making the score 40-0 to Horsham at half
time.
In the second half Horsham continued to dominate however conceded a
consolation try which wasn’t converted. Horsham responded with two more
tries from McGivern and Nwachukwu both completing their hat-tricks and
the game finished 52-5. Horsham’s man of the match was try scorer Ben
Birch and a special mention needs to go to Aiden Plumpton for a
terrific debut performance.
