This weekend saw the Lions travel to Worthing Rugby Club to face their top of the league table foes, in what was deemed to be a ‘make or break’ game for both sides.
Changes to the pack were forced on Thursday evening due to Nick Swann being injured and Alan Jones unavailable, a reshuffle saw Adam Harman at loose-head .
The initial engagements were hard with neither team wishing to yield. An error from Worthing saw the Lions take first blood, Jo Wilde stepped forward and slotted the penalty 3-0 Lions. Then a very scrappy physical game ensued, again with neither team able to take full control of the game. Again, Worthing infringed and Horsham took the points 6-0. Worthing then struck a blow with the centre crashing over ………..6-5 to the Lions. The conversion was missed by their Skipper.
The game then proceeded with some monster tackles and strong defence work from both sides, in the dying minutes of the game, the Worthing right wing broke down the field and looked to score. Rory Yeates crossed the field from the opposite wing to make a try saving tackle, his foot work and pace was tremendous. The Worthing Scrum that followed saw the skipper at eight pick up and bulldoze for the try line. The referee was well positioned and with cheers from Worthing thinking they crossed for the win the referee deemed him short of the line! Up roar of cheers from the Lions went up which could possibly be heard back at Coolhurst.
A great game from both sides and a well earned win.
WELL DONE BOYS.
So, we move on………..this weekend Sussex Police visit Horsham which again will be a tough physical encounter, Get your availabilities in please.
