The Lions were back to league action this weekend, playing Norfolk Arms at Wiston Park, Steyning. After some tough decisions needed to be made in selection, the regulars in the Lions were privileged with a top notch bench and a starting back row that would equal the firsts.
With a boggy and sticky pitch, the Lions went up the slope and were punished with a wake up call early on from Norfolk Arms. A penalty in front of the posts and The Arms took the points. Horsham woke up and applied the pressure on the opposition, sending the slender winger Barber, over in the corner. With Norfolk Arms larger pack they tried to dominate, by using close quarter large runners and trying to get their phases going. A very tedious slow game evolved, not to the Lions liking, and Horsham were being guilty off dropping their game to a lower level. After long periods of nothing…..Barber was sent over again much to the relief of Horsham. Barber crossed over again for his hatrick and the job was done. The Lions won 17-3.
The only thing to say is, a win is a win…..we will take it, we do however need to perform at a higher level. Our energy, generally across the team needs to be higher, we have set our standards high this season and we are, as a team more than capable of achieving great things this season. Keep getting those availabilities in early, league game, cup game or even a friendly game, it doesn’t matter.
One last note,…………………….. WELL DONE LADS, KEEP IT UP.
