Horsham Lions travelled to Heathfield and Waldron 3s for the first round of the cup, expecting a hard game.
A very boggy pitch welcomed the Lions and with no referee arriving, the Heathfield 2nd row who said he was a level 9 referee took the whistle. Horsham worked hard to get any advantage, but to no avail! A very boring game was not enjoyed by the Lions, with a very sprightly( suspect threes) number 6! Knowing Heathfields ones had no game and a few ringers playing.
The small possession that the Lions enjoyed, saw the skipper Mark Elliott go over for a well worked try. Also, a nice line break from Sam Bell. He was tap tackled by a Heathfield player on a clear run for the line, the Heathfield player did not hold on to Bell in the tackle, with the line clear for Bell the Referee blew for a Penalty against Horsham.
Then came Lowe receiving a clear cross field kick and touching down in the corner, the referee deemed the try disallowed!
Passfield crossed the line again! And again , the try was disallowed!
Frustration set in, with no level playing field present for the Lions, the game seemed pointless.
Final score 22-11 Heathfield and Waldron
So, The Lions wish Heathfield and Waldron 3s the best of luck in their Cup run, and hope the Referee a good rest of season.
Horsham Lions now can focus completely on the League.
