Horsham put in a spirited first-half performance at home against promotion chasing Old Colfeians, but the visitors then turned on the power to win 50-24.

Injuries and yellow cards hampered Horsham when they were looking threatening but ultimately the scrummaging power of Old Colfeians allowed them to ramp up the pressure and put a gloss on the result.

That was after Horsham had only trailed the London 2 South East clash by seven points deep into the second half.

Immediately from the start, Old Colfeians put the Green and White scrum under pressure to score a converted try but Horsham bounced back with a penalty from Will Bell and then a try following some good phase play with some great carries finished off by Josh Steggles and converted by Bell to take a surprise 10-7 lead.

Unfortunately for the hosts scrum-half Steggles then went off injured with an ankle injury and was badly missed and disrupted Horsham’s pattern of play.

Old Colfeians then scored from a catch and drive, and when Emmet O’Rahilly was yellow carded the visitors had their tails up and scored another couple of tries.

They took advantage of having an extra man and scored when Horsham briefly had only 13 players on the field.

Horsham responded with a fine try out wide from Michael Tredgett following multiple phase and good play in the contact area which was converted from the touchline by Bell and the deficit was narrowed to 17-26 at the break.

Early in the second half Old Colfeians scored from the turnover of possession at the line out before quicker pace and multiple phase play resulted in a well finished try by Richard Tredgett.

It was converted by Bell and after 56 minutes Horsham had narrowed the gap to 24-31.

This was as good as it got for the Green and Whites because Old Colfeians turned on the power to score a further three tries, and when Giles Barber was yellow carded there was no way back for Horsham.
