Youngster Bell and superb defence inspires Horsham win

Tries came from a hat-trick by 17 year old winger Jordan Bell, Tom Johnson and James Johnson. Tom Johnson added two conversions.

Horsham raced to a 12-0 lead but were then pegged back to 12-12, before scoring a further three tries and shutting out the Kent side in the second half.

Tom Johnson opened the scoring after nine minutes following several phases of play.

On 25 minutes Joe Wilde showed his pace to round the defence and put Jordan Bell away for his first try.

In the second minute of the second half the ball was spun wide to Jordan Bell accelerating at speed who then cut inside to score.

On 48 minutes he completed his hat-trick with a carbon copy try.

James Johnson completed the scoring on 55 minutes from close quarters after Horsham showing great control had again gone through several phases.
Coach Nick Stocker was pleased with his side’s defensive performance and singled out Jordan Bell for praise.

“He took a decision this year to play as much rugby as he can for the seniors. His performances in recent months have been very encouraging bearing in mind he is only 17.

Most of our pre-season was focused on attacking patterns, but we had neglected some of our defensive duties. We’ve been working on this for a couple of months now and it is starting to bear fruit.”

Next up for Horsham is a home fixture against Hove this Saturday, KO 2pm.
