The Winner Shield is ours

Horsham had to win this last league game of the season with a bonus point (at least four tries) and at the same time avoid that Guernsey got a bonus point (win with a margin of more than 7 points) to win League 2. Otherwise Guernsey would win the league and be promoted to the top league.

And after only two minutes our small winger Rasmus Madum made it 5-0 with a strong try in the corner. Only three tries to go! But Guernsey quickly responded with a try and a conversion and took the lead. Scrum half Alex Harry got through with another try – but oops and Guernsey again responded suddenly 10-12. Ben Murphy scored and at half time we were up 15-12. Just one more try, and it came in half way into second half when Rasmus from Denmark scored his second try, 20-12 and mission accomplished. But still 15 minutes to go – and parents were now starting to feel sick and ill – and though Guernsey looked very tired they were clever enough to kick their next penalty over the bar and 20-15 gave them the promotion. This was like a Hollywood film – parents didn’t dare look – but the boys carried on, kept their discipline and structure and slowly broke the big boys from Guernsey and when Lewis Wilson and Ollie Lewis scored the last two tries we could all laugh – rather hysterical – and celebrate a 30-15 victory in our best performance of the season.

So what difference does it make - that we have won the League 2? Well, it clearly makes a lot to the parents, a hell of a lot to the coaches and eventually our boys will realise what they have achieved. They have been through hell and high tide and after last year where heavy words were so lightly thrown, they have now come together and will leap in front of a flying bullet for each other.

A big thanks to Coach Jones and his strong team with Coach Evans, Coach Robison, Coach Lewis, Coach Bell and Coach Wright, Team Manager Allen, Screaming Mothers who also serve food and clean tired players hands with wet wipes and not to forget Dr. Matthews with his first aid man bag.

And especially to all the boys who has fought so well the whole season - Callum Punter, Tom Hamblet, Sam Minto, Callum Robison, Harry Stannard, Ollie Lewis, George Carbone, Aaron Bulman, Alex Harry, Matt Allen, Lewis Wilson, James Purbrick, Ben Murphy, Rasmus Madum, Jordan Bell, John Mathews, Craig Dent, Josh Medley, Henry Purser, Piers Lydon, Harrison Gould, Louis Evans, Max Day, Sam Wheeler and Shane.
