Winning start

The boys got off to a winning start away at a grey and damp morning down in Eastbourne for the opening league fixture of the 18/19 Season.

A slightly nervy start never the less saw the boys go ahead within 10 minutes. A determined Eastbourne defence made sure there were no easy scores and the boys went into half time with a 10-15 lead.

Early in the 2nd half both Jonny Staples and Matt Barrow were forced off, both picking up knocks. The boys kept their composure and started looking after the ball better as conditions improved throughout the game. With the increased control came a steady stream of possession that was well converted.

The game was called 5 mins from the end after the Eastbourne hooker was injured and needed to be attended to by medics. Thankfully it was purely precautionary and the lad is fine.

Horsham running out 10-34 winners.

An outstanding performance from 2nd row Jacob Denhart and winger Ryan Pearce in his first league start.
