On a rare bright day without rain, both teams took to the field looking for a win in the new year. After defeat away, the Lions were looking for some payback.
The Horsham outfit struck first, a penalty was awarded against Shoreham's winger. Jake Gates stepped up and slotted an easy 3 points.
Shoreham then upped their game with some good off loading out of the tackle, the Lions conceded two consecutive converted tries. The Lions replied with a converted try from strong running by Dan Crook. 14-10 at half time, to Shoreham.
The second half began with some direct running by Horsham, which paid dividends. Paton-Phillips saw a break, and found himself looking for support. The help came in the shape of Joe Green, the second row bounding up the pitch at pace to score under the posts.
Strong work from the front five saw a turn around from a five meter scrum on the Horsham line. With eighteen year old, Kyle Fairs making his debut in the squad and showing his strength up front. Harman broke from the back of the pack, and fed a good running line from James Whiting that pushed the team forward, with more powerful runs from Nick Essex it proved too much for Shoreham to handle. Essex crossed the line to score.
Final Score 22-14 to The Lions.
Man of the match, Kyle Fairs.
