In the final pre-season friendly of the season, a youthful Horsham Lions side, comfortably dispatched Camberley second team 38-8.

Jake Lowe, who has had a dynamic start to the season at hooker, and looked particularly mobile, scored a hat-trick of tries in the first fifty minutes before being moved to the wing.

Joe Green also showed great fitness to be first in support and score after Jake Gates charged down an attempted kick out of defence.
Neil Holden, making a welcome return to the club, showed what a handful he can be when running a direct line from 25 yards off Aled Price’s pass to score under the posts, and Gates completed the scoring with a fine try in the left hand corner despite Horsham now having to play the last fifteen minutes with 14 men following an injury to Holden. Four of the tries were converted by Price.

Horsham coach Nick Stocker said, “It was a good squad performance and they all showed that they are capable of stepping up to the 1st XV which bodes well for the coming season. Our two props, Kyle Fairs and Liam Brady who were playing for the Colt’s last year, held their own against experienced opponents and this was their first game of senior rugby together. Jake Lowe at hooker also had a great game and the entire front row was age 20 or under. I want also to highlight the performance of young Matt Blake who was making his debut at full back at the age of 17, was safe under the high ball and did not put a foot wrong.

1st XV league action starts for Horsham on September 13 away to newly promoted Hastings & Bexhill.
