Horsham RUFC should be rightly proud of the U15's and U16's as they both won their age groups at the Hilversum Tournament in Holland on Easter Sunday.

After winning their matches played against our great friends at the Pink Panthers on the Saturday both age groups were confronted with some fierce competition from Holland, Wales, England, Germany and Lithuania when they arrived at the prestigious Hilversum Tournament.

The Under 15's competition featured Hitchin, Tavistock, Dutch Academy, DIOK, Scunthorpe and Peterborough whilst the Under 16's were up against Bridgend, Peterborough, Hilversum, Moseley, Pontyclun, Dutch Academy, Cleckeaton, South Gower, Combe Down, Sihillians, Vilnius (Lithuania) and Vlanderen.

Both age groups played 3 x 20 min games in their groups and both won
all 3.

  • u15's v DIOK 26-0
  • u15's v Hitchen 10-0
  • u15's v Tavistock 14-0

  • u16's v Dutch Academy 24-7
  • u16's v Cleckeaton 24-0
  • u16's v Pontyclun 17-0

The Under 15's then went on to play a very powerful Scunthorpe team in the final and ran out 10-0 winners. The quiet and retiring Head Coach had worked it out tactically and knew he had to play away from the powerful Scunthorpe forwards and unleash the speed of the Horsham backs. It worked a treat with a try for both wingers clinching the trophy. The
boys didn't concede a point all day and all the tries were scored by
the centres and wingers in a stunning show of running rugby.

The Under 16's had to play a semi final against an extremely talented Welsh team in South Gower who boasted Osprey's academy players. Horsham won an epic encounter 7-3 with our own Harlequins Academy winger coming out on top over the equally talented and quick Ospreys academy winger. The boys went on to drag their bodies(numbers were very depleted by then) into an extremely high quality final with a really cracking Combe Down team from Bath and came out on top 5-0 in front of a very raucous crowd, including the u15's and their newly found friends from Moseley.

The scenes at the final whistle with both age groups celebrating were a sight to behold and will live long in the memory. These two wins are something which the whole of Horsham should be very proud of.

The level of this tournament was above anything local and the future for Horsham Rugby Club is very bright, the future is GREEN ARMY!
