Nine Horsham players have been selected for the initial Sussex U15 Squad

With Chris Robshaw’s men getting this year’s Six Nations campaign off to an impressive start, with a resilient 21-16 victory over early match leaders Wales, members of the Horsham Under-15s are taking their first steps towards representative rugby. Peter Barry (Hooker), Joseph Blake (Fly Half), Alfie Burchfield (Centre), Dale Connellan (Winger), George Cook (Number 8), Vincent Everitt (Flanker), Aaron Linfield (Scrum Half), Simon Powell (Flanker) and Max Wright (Second Row) have all gained selection to the initial Sussex squad, following a rigorous selection process that saw over 200 boys assessed. With only one training session remaining before Sussex faces Middlesex in the opening match of a three-game ‘tour’, all 9 Horsham players will be hoping to be named on the team sheet next weekend. “I’m delighted for the players,” commented Horsham Head Coach Dayle Kirby, “and it’s a real credit both to them and to their Horsham teammates that they’ve been given the opportunity to represent the County.”

For Blake and Everitt, the next few months could prove to be doubly exciting as both have also been nominated by Harlequins to attend two London Academies Skills Clinics with England Under-18 coaches John Fletcher and Peter Walton. In the meantime, four District sides have been created across Sussex, giving next year’s County hopefuls a chance to demonstrate their ability in a series of matches timed to mirror the Sussex programme.

Horsham currently sits second in the Sussex League 1 table, with a difficult away match to newly-promoted Hove standing between them and a third consecutive League Final appearance. With this decisive match taking place on 22 March, the Horsham players and coaches must now redouble their efforts on the training ground and in the ‘War Room’.
