Horsham U14 B team enjoy another convincing win Apr 13, 2010, 5:10 pmHorsham 55 Hastings & Bexhill 21
Horsham B’s entertained a depleted H&B side and ran out easy winners 55-21 in a 13-a–side encounter. Again, we had to load the opposition players and many thanks to Dan Poat, CHY, Blasé and Rob Chandler.
The lads got off to a great start scoring 45 unanswered points with seven tries in a 35 minute blitz of the opposition. Aaron Boczek got the ball rolling with a good short range try and the flood gates opened. There was no answer to the hard and straight running of Jerry Downey scoring 3 tries, Blasé scoring two, and Aron Lewer who ran in two tries and underlined his great improvement this season. Simon Ashman also got on the score sheet with a pick up and drive from the base of the scrum. And all this was backed up by a very good kicking display from Connor Peppard who landed five conversions.
The “runners” were given all the good possession by a dominant pack who all showed good tight skills as well as a willingness to run and with Tom Symes and Simon Ashman dominating the breakdown support runners were never far away.
In the last 15 min Hastings rallied and got on the score sheet three times with some good passages of play and some poor defending, but the result was never in doubt. Blasé also joined a select band of players who have scored against their own side … nice one!
Moment of the match –the fantastic run by CHY in the first half; he beat four defenders all within 3m of the touchline with a mixture of pace, show and go, and dummies and he put Tom Symes in for a great score only to be brought back for an “ify” forward pass decision by the ref.
This was an easy win and again underlines how well the “B’s” have progressed.

Horsham U14 B team enjoy convincing win over Crawley Mar 23, 2010, 11:22 pmHorsham B 45 - Crawley 12
Horsham played local rivals Crawley and ran out comfortable winners 45-12 based on a superb first half display.
Our coaches have been waiting for an opportunity to see a full B team play some quality opposition to assess progress, and whilst Crawley were not at full strength, our team was far to good for them in nearly all aspects of play.
The first half was a procession of points. The forwards dominated possession and all the team showed a good appetite for contact as well as good distribution and swift hands. Crawley did not seem to have an answer to the pace and quality of Jerry Downey or Blaisé Salle who both scored a brace of tries. Futher tries followed from the impressive Aaron Boczek and Dan Rapson, who both thrived playing against their old Club.
The pack were superb in the first half. The tight five scrummed and rucked well and the back row showed great mobility and skill in the breakdown. Most pleasing of all was the high degree of handling skills that the forwards showed.
With the pack providing good ball it gave the opportunity for Joey Walker and Nic Mathers at half backs to run the show which they did excellently with a good variety of passing, kicking and intelligent play and, whilst they did not score, were responsible for the excellent shape and pace of the backline in the first half as we scored 38 points.
Jack Cox tackled well throughout and followed this up with a searing break from the No12 position, fooling the opposition, and his own team-mates, with a superb dummy - only a dropped pass prevented a score!
To their credit Crawley seemed to rally in the second half which was a much more even contest with the visitors scoring two good tries to our one by Dan White.
Aaronn ran hard and straight the whole game and Connor Peppard gave his usual tackling master class!
Overall a thoroughly satisfying performance from a rapidly improving team. It is clear that the guys are progressing well and should take every credit from the last two games.
Horsham: Fergus Murphy-Hunt; Henry Seear; Sam Boylett; Aron Lewer; Daniel Rapson; Tom Symes; Matt Lane-Miller; Blaisé Salle; Josiah Walker; Nic Mathers; Felix Chapman; Jack Cox; Aaronn Boczek; Jerry Downey; Dan White; Fraser Latimer; Rob Chandler; Dan Poat; Cameron Howes-Yarlett; Connor Peppard
Horsham U14 B team enjoy big win at home Mar 20, 2010, 8:06 pmHorsham Bs 51 Cranleigh 10
On the first bright Spring morning of the year Horsham under-14 Bs entertained Cranleigh in a friendly fixture and continued their excellent season with another resounding victory. That’s 2 games played since Christmas and over 100 points scored …
Cranleigh only brought 10 players so a succession of Horsham lads played for Cranleigh to enable the match to go ahead. Not an easy thing to do and a big thanks to all the lads who did.
However once the game got underway, Horsham dominated from the first whistle and outplayed a spirited Cranleigh team.
As the score suggests the result was never in doubt and with a first half hat-trick from Jerry Downey and further scores from Kyle Fairs and Cameron Howes-Yarlett caped a really good half at 29:0. The pack went well and we got the ball wide on a number of occasions to outflank the opposition.
The second half saw more of the same with KYLE FAIRS !!!! completing his hat-trick, and Dan Cass and Simon Ashman also rumbling over.
Cranleigh battled hard all morning and did get on the score sheet with a good running move against some fragile midfield tackling to score in the corner.
Cranleigh also had the last, and for me the best, score of the match with the excellent Tom Symes (playing for Cranleigh) picking up the ball in loose play, driving through the heart of the Horsham pack – taking about four defenders with him, then going to ground and popping the ball to Dan Rapson (also playing for Cranleigh) to smash over the line from 2m.
All in all a good run out for everyone. Always nice to see props on the wings, hookers in the centre, flankers at full back and everyone playing well but with some good rugby thrown in as well.
It was also great to see Fergus hitting the rucks and mauls hard, and on once occasion moving the whole maul about 10m, of about 15 lads, on his own, UP THE HILL!!!
