Senior Sides

Horsham currently fields three full senior sides and a vets side.  The 1st XV play in London South East 3, the Lions 2nd XV play in Sussex 2 West, and the 3rd XV play in Sussex 3 West.  We now have an expanded Coaching Team of 5 senior Coaches, and in addition to this we also have non-playing Managers for both the 1st and 2nd XV and a player-Manager for the 3rd XV.

The 1st XV finished 6th in London South East 4 last season, now London South East 3 following the RFU's re-structuring of the leagues.  In addition to the expanded Coaching Team Chris Hoskins has taken on the role of 1st XV Manager, allowing returning Captain Matt Stone and the team to focus on the playing side of things.

The Lions 2nd XV finished last season mid-table in Sussex 2 West and are looking to improve on that this season.  Doug Wright and Dan Kelly are the new Co-Captains, with Billy Morton taking the role of Lions Manager.  Billy will be with the Lions on match days, providing both guidance on the day and feedback to the other Coaches following matches.

With the decision to form a fully paid-up Vets team this year in the rather portly shape of the Horsham Casuals this will effectively be the first season for the new 3rd XV.  Player-Manager Tom Mathias will be taking the reins and looking to secure a solid foothold in Sussex 3 West.  The 3rd XV will help to provide a rung on the ladder for those players making the transition from age-grade to senior rugby alongside some wise (and not so wise) old heads.

Training

Training takes place at the club on Tuesday and Thursday nights, starting at 7.30pm sharp.  Although the three teams have their own managers the senior players train as a single unit, with no separation of one team from another.  The mantra for the season is One Club, One Goal, and it is with this in mind that we approach training nights.

In addition to the joys of running around in the cold the Club Physio is also available on training nights to carry out running repairs on the players as well as providing longer-term treatment for those carrying injuries.  However, anyone who thinks that Amanda's physio table is an easier option than the pitch is likely to have a nasty surprise...
