Vice-Presidents

Many of you will know or have heard of or even seen Vice Presidents in the Clubhouse mainly drinking or eating at the VP's events throughout the playing season.   VP's though do support the Club in many other ways such as fundraising, being active committee members or generally supporting the advancement of HRFC.   Many were involved in the recent success of achieving planning permission for the new Clubhouse.       

So not what but who are they? Vice Presidents are mostly but not exclusively current or former HRFC Players who have been honoured by being invited to become a Vice President of the Club, but any paid up member can be nominated. There is no formal criteria for becoming a VP, but they are normally individuals that have given consistent and dedicated support to the Club from either a Playing, fundraising, organising or helping perspective.   The invitation to become a VP is made in recognition of this contribution and to thank individuals for past, present and future support to the Club.

The list of people who have received this honour is printed in the Club Handbook and is updated each year as we receive new nominations.   Have a look at the list and I’m sure that many of you will see names that you recognise.

So, what do you do if you want to nominate someone to become a VP or become one yourself ? Well, all of the above really but more specifically:

·          In a playing capacity, be a regular player/Captain/trainer & coach, be reliable and supportive of players and coaches alike and be a role model for playing peers.

·          In a coaching capacity, have coached at a variety of levels at HRFC helping the development of players of all ages from a technical, skills & discipline perspective.

·          In a non-playing or coaching capacity – someone that consistently takes responsibility for organising events & functions, helps supports those organising such events, generates revenue for the Club through fundraising or sponsorship or any other revenue generating activities.

·          In a general capacity, anyone that has made a significant contribution to the Club including   Catering, Ground keeping & Clubhouse upkeep etc. etc.

A pre-requisite to being nominated or elected is having been a fully paid up member of the Club!!, and there is an expectation that over and above normal annual subscriptions VPs commit to a yearly donation to the Club which can either be sent to the VPs co-ordinator directly or paid by Direct Debit alongside your Annual Subs.   This donation is not mandatory, but every little helps !!      

Nominations can be made at any time of year and submitted to the Vice Presidents co-ordinator who this year happens to be me!   However, all nominations are considered only once a year and VPs elected by a show of hands following a short summary of the support the individual has given to the club by the VPs co-ordinator at the Annual General Meeting held at the end of the season.

So get nominating, you can send nominees to me directly or via any member of the Management committee.
